Patriot's coach defends his contact with replacement referee

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick says he was trying to get an explanation for the Ravens' winning field goal when he confronted an official after the game.

Belichick made contact with the official on the field after Justin Tucker 's 27-yard kick on the final play gave Baltimore a 31-30 win over New England on Sunday night.

Belichick says Monday the incident occurred as he was seeking an explanation whether the play was under review. He also says he has never tried to abuse or be disrespectful to officials.

He says that from where he was standing he couldn't tell if the ball sailed over the upright or had gone inside or outside of it. He didn't mention touching the official or the possibility of being fined by the NFL, which is investigating.
