The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating a woman's body that was discovered Wednesday in a rural area outside of Clewiston.
The Hendry County Sheriff's confirmed that a group of men who were mowing a law near County Road 835 and Blumberg Road found the body in a sugarcane field.
A spokesperson with the Hendry County Sheriff's Office also verified the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office called their office on Thursday, mentioning they had received a missing person's report.
Through multiple sources, WPTV NewsChannel 5 has confirmed the body is a female.
Both agencies are now working together to confirm the identify.
"It becomes a little more real. You realize that whoever that individual is could be someone's mother, someone's father, brother or sister. They're a human being. And someone is going to be grieving their loss," said Captain Susan Harrelle with the Hendry County Sheriff's Office.
Harrelle estimated the body had been in the field for several days before it was discovered.
The body is being taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
Friday the medical examiner's office issued this statement: "Please be advised that no information in this case can be released as this matter is under an active investigation per Florida Statute."
