Vi Ripken, Cal Ripken's mother, doing 'fine' after kidnapping, former Baltimore Orioles player says

BALTIMORE - Cal Ripken Jr. spoke out about his mother's recent kidnapping at a news conference Friday morning.

Ripken's 74-year-old mother, Vi, told police she was kidnapped at gunpoint last week, blindfolded and driven around. She was found unharmed in her car the following day.

During the news conference Ripken said that they are putting up 5 billboards that look similar to the wanted poster in the Baltimore City area and that the billboards already up did generate leads for detectives.

He also said that the video of the suspect was taken at the Wal-Mart on Chesapeake Center Drive and Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie, Md.

How is Vi Ripken doing?

Ripken said that his mother is doing fine and that is she is a "tough, strong woman" and he not sure when she will go back to living at her house.

Bizarre case

"It is quite possible it could have been a random act, quite possible it could have been more... We really just don't know why," said Ripken.

He also said that they found a lot of evidence that shows this was "premeditated."

Ripken said he still struggles with the "why" of the kidnapping, but is thankful that the publicity can help the investigation.
