FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas - The heat claimed the life of a canine deputy Monday that was out searching for a suspect in Texas.
Knight, a two-year-old service dog called in from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, was assisting Bastrop County deputies trying to serve a warrant to a fleeing suspect.
Despite precautions, Knight later died, apparently from heat exhaustion.
The black German Shepherd worked for Fayette County his entire life and is credited with numerous arrests and drug seizures during his short career.
A memorial service for Knight will be held Friday. He'll be buried on the grounds of the sheriff's office.
