Suspects try to run over Detroit Police officers, two in custody

(WXYZ) - Detroit Police say two people are in custody after they tried to run officers over with their SUV on Wednesday night on the city's east side.

The incident happened at Berkshire and Nottingham. Things escalated when an undercover cop tried to make an arrest during an illegal gun sale between the two suspects.

Police began opening fire when the suspects tried to run them over. One of the suspects was shot in the arm and transported to the hospital. The other suspect was taken into custody.

Shortly after the incident,  police told 7 Action News a large crowd gathered after they felt the two men were treated unfairly.

DPD says that was not the case. Back-up law enforcement was called to the area.

Another man was pepper sprayed and arrested after he tried to cross the yellow caution tape to allegedly attack an officer.

The initial case is still under investigation.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Police said earlier that the suspects shot at the officers with an AK-47. They have since retracted that statement.
