Drivers may think their car offers protection from the sun, but a vehicle may not actually block ultraviolet rays very well.

A new study looking at a variety of car models found the percentage of UV rays the side windows block can be as low as 44 percent.

Only four of the nearly 30 cars researchers tested blocked more than 90 percent of the dangerous rays.

Windshields give drivers more protection against UV rays because they are made with a different type of glass.
