Aaron Hernandez fiancée Shayanna Jenkins faces perjury charge, pleaded not guilty

Released on own recognizance

The girlfriend of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez was arraigned in a Massachusetts court Tuesday on perjury charges.

State prosecutors said Shayanna Jenkins destroyed evidence that would have helped police link Hernandez to the June murder of Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges.

Prosecutors said Jenkins removed a box from the basement of the couple's home and threw it away in a Dumpster.

But when questioned before a grand jury, Jenkins testified she had no memory of where she went and could not recall where she tossed the box.

Prosecutors said Jenkins violated a grant of immunity when she claimed lapses of memory during her testimony.

Prosecutors asked for a $5,000 cash bail, but Jenkins was released on personal recognizance.

She's due back in court on November.
