A 4.6 earthquake was reported this morning near the Santa Barbara Channel, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. ( MAP )
The tremor occurred at 7:38 a.m., 5 km west of Isla Vista, off the coast, USGS reports.
It was initially reported as 4.9, but was later downgraded to 4.6.
A second 2.6 quake was reported at 7:50 a.m.
Light shaking was felt in the general Santa Barbara area as well as parts of Lompoc and Ventura County.
Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio said the first quake was felt in the Ventura dispatch center as well as the jail but no damages, outages or injuries have been reported.
"We're not expected any problems here," Bonfiglio said.
The quake was also felt in Casitas Springs, the Oxnard Shores area, Port Hueneme, Camarillo and cities in the east county.
