Renisha McBride: Detroit porch shooter Theodore Wafer guilty of 2nd degree murder

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A jury has found Theodore Wafer guilty of 2nd degree murder in the death of Renisha McBride.

He was also found guilty of manslaughter and felony firearms charges.

The judge has denied bond and ordered Wafer remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

“We are obviously very pleased with the jury verdict and feel that justice was served today. We sincerely hope that this brings some comfort to the family of Renisha McBride,“ said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a news release.

The 55-year-old Wafer fired his shotgun through the screen door, killing the 19-year-old McBride in November.

Wafter testified that he was afraid because of pounding on the two doors at his home.

However, prosecutors argued that he had other options he could have exercised before opening fire, including calling police.

Prosecutors have argued that a drunk McBride was at Wafer house looking for help following a car accident several hours earlier.

Sentencing has been set for August 25.
