North Carolina A&T State University on lockdown after reports of a gunman on campus

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina A&T State University is evacuating several buildings and advising other students to take shelter after a report of a man with a rifle on campus.

University spokeswoman Samantha Hargrove says campus police received a report of a gunman in the General Classroom Building at 9:57 a.m.

She says there has not been any verification of the initial report or reports of injuries or shots being fired.

Hargrove says campus police are sweeping and evacuating four buildings clustered on the north side of the campus.

N.C. A&T is a historically black university with a nearly 200-acre central campus east of downtown Greensboro.
