Officials with NOAA and FEMA are sharing life saving tips during National Flood Safety Awareness Week.
During National Flood Safety Awareness Week, which runs through March 16th-22nd, authorities will highlight the importance of preparing for a flood and teach people what to do if they're ever stuck in a flooding situation.
Authorities said create a disaster supply kit, keep tabs on the local forecast and share alerts with friends and loved ones via text or through social media, alerting them when a flood threat or hazardous weather conditions exists.
According to NOAA, 85 people lost their lives to freshwater flooding.
More than half of those fatalities were a result of people driving into floodwaters.
