TANEGASHIMA, Japan - NASA is preparing to launch a satellite into space Thursday afternoon from the Tanegashima Space Center in Tanegashima, Japan.
The Global Precipitation Measurement Core Observatory aboard the H-IIA rocket rolled out to the launch pad early Thursday and is set to take off at 1:37 p.m. EST.
The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) will observe rain and snow worldwide from space every three hours.
The data is expected to provide a deeper understanding of water and energy cycles on earth, according to NASA officials.
