A Bay Area FOX affiliate made what is probably considered one of the most embarrassing mistakes in TV news history on Friday. KTVU was duped into reading racist, incorrect names for the pilots of Asiana flight 214.
The anchor read the incorrect and offensive names during a noon broadcast, citing confirmation from The National Transportation Safety Board. A social media storm quickly followed.
By Friday night, the NTSB issued an apology stating "a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft."
The NTSB has yet to release the names of the pilots, "We work hard to ensure that only appropriate factual information regarding an investigation is released and deeply regret today's incident. Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated."
