The man suspected of killing 12 people and injuring more than 53 others at an Aurora, Colorado movie Theater has been identified as 24-year-old James Holmes.
He was found at his car, behind the theater, according to Police Chief Dan Oates.
Holmes moved from San Diego to Colorado about a year ago, according to his mother. She told a reporter that her son moved to Colorado to pursue a Ph.D.
The Associated Press is reporting that Holmes dropped out of medical school last month.
Spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery says 24-year-old James Holmes was a student at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver until last month. She did not know when he started school or why he withdrew.
The Pentagon says that some members of the military were either killed or wounded in the shooting.
Pentagon press secretary George Little says it's not yet clear how many military casualties there were, or whether they were deaths or injuries.
Marine Col. Dave Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman, says initial indications are that the suspect, James Holmes, was not a member of the military.
The FBI says there is no indication the shooting is tied to any terrorist groups.
