Autism Speaks gives scholarships to groups offering swimming and water safety classes

Autism Speaks is offering scholarships to organizations offering swimming and water safety programs.

The Autism Speaks Swimming and Water Safety Scholarship Fund was launched in response to the growing number of drowning incidents in the autism community. Drowning is currently the leading cause of death after a person with autism wanders from safety, a tendency that was recently found to occur in nearly half of individuals with autism.

Autism Speaks is now acceping application for its Swimming & Water Safety Scholarship Fund Funding of up to $2,500 will be awarded to eligible organizations offering autism-specific swim and water safety lessons for financially disadvantaged individuals on the spectrum.

Grants are awarded quarterly. Upcoming deadlines: May 21 and Aug. 13.
