PHOENIX, Ar - School officials in Arizona say a second grade teacher has been removed from the classroom and an investigation is under way amid accusations that the educator taped a young girl to her chair as punishment.
Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman Cara Rene says "We take these things very seriously, adding that if that behavior did take place, "appropriate disciplinary action will be taken."
The girl's mother, Maria Vasquez, is outraged and says her daughter suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
She tells KGUN-TV "She likes to be happy, and they tied her to a chair."
Vasquez says her daughter told her the teacher taped her to the chair after becoming upset the girl was getting up to sharpen her pencil too many times.
Vasquez reported the incident to the Tucson Police Department.
