American Airlines testing bidding for upgrades

lets customers bid for premium cabins

DALLAS (AP) -- American Airlines is testing the idea of letting customers bid for upgrades to premium cabins.

Passengers can submit a bid -- along with a credit card number -- up to six days before the flight.

On its website, the airline invites travelers to make an offer, saying they will be sent an email before check-in to let them know if their bid has been accepted.

Spokesman Matt Miller says American will decide in the coming weeks whether customers like the bidding option.
