BELLE GLADE, FL--Traditionally, summer is a time for going to the beach or swimming in the pool.

Instead, one group of youngsters is spending time painting bleachers.

"Honestly I love it. These are our neighbors, and I just love being able to reach out to them," said Jessi Butler, a student at Christ Fellowship.

"Reaching out" is exactly what the students from Christ Fellowship are doing for the citizens of Belle Glade, by working to repaint the bleachers at Glades Day school.

Shaun Blakeney is the student ministries pastor.  He says the students were eager to undertake this ambitious project for one very important reason.

"We live in a culture where, entitlement, selfishness is promoted, and for years the church has been known for what it's against, and we decided that it's time the world knows what the church is for, and we're for loving people," says Blakeney

Students also plan to venture out into the community to help tackle some code enforcement issues.
