THE ACREAGE, FL--Three mothers in The Acreage, who live within a one mile radius, are wondering why their children have developed brain tumors.

And they say more families-- all of them neighbors-- may soon come forward with the same heartbreaking story.

Call them 'The Acreage' moms. Three mothers who have lived the torture of seeing their children wheeled into surgery to have brain tumors removed.

Tracey Newfield's daughter Jessica had a tumor successfully removed. The family is hopeful a new cyst just discovered is benign.

Paulette DeCarlo’s daughter Christina's walnut-sized tumor was removed in the last year.

Jennifer Dunsford's son Garrett had an orange-sized tumor removed.

He's a tough little boy, now recovered, and not afraid to  show off his scar.

And there are more. Jennifer Dunsford says three other kids from within a three mile radius of her Acreage home have brain tumors.

What is going on in The Acreage?

It's a sprawling private and rural area. Some residents are concerned  there is an environmental source.

The Acreage moms all have wells. They all once lived in Broward County. They all are looking at the odds of one child getting a brain tumor.

Doing the math raises red flags.

The state health department is aware of the concern. Jennifer has been told to give cancer registry forms to everyone she knows who has been touched by brain cancer.

But, the Acreage moms are getting impatient.

The mothers we spoke to say there are at least six children and several adults in their neighborhood who have  developed  brain tumors in the past few years.

The state health department tells us it is narrowing down the factors that could lead to tumors and or cancers

The department is fine tuning the ages and similarities of patients in the early stages of its investigation.
