WELLINGTON, FL -- Two children and an adult are being treated for rabies exposure.
The eleven-year-old victim, whose mother asked that we not release his name, says he saw the kitten running near his home in the Greenview Shores neighborhood of Wellington Friday night.
He tells NewsChannel 5, "I ran in, got some food and came back out and I went to go pet him, he went spastic and bit me. It was crazy."
The Siamese mix then bit his mother's toe, and his 13-year-old neighbor's hand.
Slade Kersey explains, "We knew it was acting strange but we didn't know it had rabies.
The cat was taken to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, euthanized and tested.
The results came back Wednesday confirming that it had rabies.
Animal control officers handed out flyers and handed out flyers to warn neighbors that there could be other rabid animals nearby.
Karen Buchan, of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, explains, "This is one kitten of a litter so there could be other kittens out there and another mother cat that may have rabies."
Animal Control asks anyone who sees an animal acting erratically to stay away and call them at 561-233-1200.
