16-year-old Nathan Walker stood before a judge Thursday morning. A few minutes later 15-year-old Jakaris Taylor listened to a judge rule both teens cannot bond out of jail.
On Wednesday, a grand jury indicted the two teens and 14-year-old Avion Lawson. The three are accused in the gang rape of a Dunbar Village mother and sexual assault of her young son.
Lawson will have to appear in court again, because his attorney was not present. His family did not want to talk about the case. But Taylor's attorney Chris Haddad says he's working on a legal defense with his client.
"We anticipated that this was a probability that this would happen and I would stress that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Mr. Taylor maintains his innocence and we are putting together the building blocks of his defense at this time."
Teenager Angel Jones says since the community found out about the June 18th attack, parents have been telling their children to be cautious in the neighborhood. "Since what happened my mom is trying to protect us, sometimes I don't even come outside."
As the community deals with what police say happened, attorney Robert Gershman will be preparing his defense for Walker.
"We have a young child who has never done anything of violence or significant felonies to anyone before now, all of a sudden is charged in this situation."
Lawson will appear before the judge again Friday morning. Until then, he will remain in the Palm Beach County jail.
