WEST PALM BEACH, FL--When a kitten was dropped off at the Adopt-a-cat foundation  in Lake Park, it was obvious to Inga Hanley that this white and gray fur ball was seriously injured.

"We have little Scooter that came to me with a broken back and she probably was about 4 weeks old at the time", says Inga Hanley from the Adopt-a-Cat foundation.

Richard Jesteadt a prosthetic technician and owner of Popps Prosthetics, in Lake Park, heard about Scooters disability and wanted to help her become more mobile. Just like Richards human patients, Scooter just wants to get around better despite her paralysis.

"Is this a challenge for you working on a 4 legged animal... Not much difference,  just a lot more fur,  harder to see whats under the fur, other than that its very similar challenges", says Richard.

The problem for Scooter will be as she grows. She'll be at risk of skin sores.

"As the cat keeps dragging itself, its going to get abrasions some type of jacket or skid and then wheels added on to protect the skin", explained Richard.

Scooter will have to work with Richard over the next few weeks to make her mobility device just right.

" I'm thinking, something the legs will have to slip into some tubes. I need to look at the shape of the legs to see if something all straigh and kind of pre-made will work or whether its going to have to be custom made", he added.

So often the animals with special needs are left behind at shelters, when, with just a little help and a lot of love, they can live a near normal life, think of how many humans have overcome disability and given the chance have inspired us all.

Scooter is trully a determined and loving little spirit and an inspiration to all who meet her.

"We would love to see her go to a home, she's got such personality and spunk and I know she'd make a wonderful pet for somebody", says Inga Hanley from the Adopt-a-Cat foundation.
