"You get to see animals in a more natural setting... you get to see them doing what wild animals do!" said Brian Dowling, Wildlife Lead at Lion Country Safari.

Many of us locals know that Lion Country Safari is a an amazing place... but now the whole country knows it too...

Recently the USA Travel Guide put out it's list of the top ten Zoo's in the country... and right at the top of the list... you guessed it

"I'm not surprised, i get to be here everyday, I have been here twelve years, so I get to see what makes us so great, so when I hear we were ranked number three in the country... I'm not surprised at all." said Dowling.

Sure there are some other parks in Florida... and they Keys are nice to visit too... but c'mon...

No matter how you look at it, it's pretty cool... having one of the top three zoo's in the country... right in our own backyard!!

But what sets Lion Country apart from the others?

"We're different from most zoo's because the people are the ones that are in the cage... they're locked inside their cars and the animals get to roam freely around them." said Dowling.

And roam freely they do... nine hundred and twenty one animals total, and nearly a hundred different species.

"Our zebra herd is the largest herd outside of the wild herds in Africa." said Dowling.

And of course there are new editions all the time, like the baby giraffes and the baby white rhino Jazze that we introduced you to a few months ago... she's growing up pretty fast...

"She's probably about 350 pounds now... she was born at about 100 pounds, but she gains about four pounds a day." said Dowling.

So if you're looking for something to do, and you don't want to travel too far... how about visiting one of the top spots in the country... that's right down the road.
