FORT HOOD, TX -- Military authorities today released the identity of a 22-year-old Florida soldier found dead in his barracks at Fort Hood. Officials say Private First Class Travis Edward Dowd of Tallahassee was discovered Tuesday in his room by fellow soldiers after he failed to report to formation. Authorities are trying to determine how Dowd died.
Officials declined comment on whether foul play is suspected. Dowd joined the military in 2007 and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division as an infantryman. His unit is to deploy to Iraq early next year. Dowd's decorations and awards include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon
