SUBURBAN BOYNTON BEACH, FL -- Chopper Five was first over the scene where two cars collided on Military Trail sending one vehicle into the backyard of home inside the Waterchase subdivision.
"We hear a huge bang got up looked around the house, everything seemed normal," says Katherine Fox.
But it was far from it and it didn't take long for homeowners to realize what happened. A Honda Accord left the roadway, smashed through Katherine's fence and stopped just feet from where a young child was sleeping.
"It's pretty scary, if this would have been in the middle of the afternoon and everybody would have been sitting outside, lives could have been killed," says Richard Kilgore.
Deputies say an elderly driver behind the wheel of the Honda had to be cut out of her car due to the extent of damage. Pieces of the car were everywhere along with alot of questions as to how the car wound up so far from the point of impact.
Investigators say the initial collision occurred on Military Trail and what deputies speculate happened is the driver of the Honda must have accelerated enough to travel 300 feet narrowly missing a Banyan Tree over a hill eventually plowing into the backyard of the house.
"We've got alot of things the car could have hit before it hit the house," says Deputy Terry Maguire.
PBSO says the elderly driver failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming red Ford Taurus creating a scene that could have ended with tragedy.
Investigators say the drivers of both vehicles were taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
