Listen...with as many people as there are on anti-depressants in this country, every person in this state who wanted to smoke medical marijuana could get a prescription, no doubt. I personally am not a smoker, it just never agreed with me. But as a 25 year emergency room nurse, I'd love to see it legalized. Never had an over-dosed or out of control pot head come into my ER. Can't say the same for drinkers and prescription and hard-core drug users. The worst is cigarettes...more emphysema and COPD than you could shake a stick at. Forget lung cancer. Smokers die from regular old lung disease more often than lung cancer 4 to 1. Pot legalization would be a God-send. He did put it here after all, anyway. Don't have to do a damn thing to it either besides let it dry out a bit. No chemicals, no additives, no carcinogens, no processing of any kind. Wake up, Washington, DC and Tallahassee. Uncrowd the jails and fill up the state and federal tax coffers...weed is the wave of the future! I'll sign the petition...get me a pen!

wow! Legalize Herb it's the smart think to do. There are no Pot head "JUNKIES". Man, talk about ignorance. For something far less addictive and harmful than alcohol it should be a no brainier. It's a safer alternative to Booze for sure. If ANYONE wants to smoke a joint instead of getting drunk they should do definitely be allowed to do so. We would have a lot less people getting killed on our highways. For anyone saying it would increase accidents I urge you to find me someone who hurt anybody smoking pot and JUST pot alone. Just a little common sense folks spread it around. todd432

I don't believe that under the U.S Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the government was EVER given the right to control drugs of ANY sort in ANY manner. Whatever happened to the right to pursue happiness, when it doesn't harm anyone else ? By making it illegal, we boost the thugs and their profit, which in turn corrupts government and politicians. If the lucrative profit didn't exist, the crime rate and violence would go down. Of course, government would not want that to happen. Government wants to invade our lives so it can grow bigger, stronger and increase our dependence on it.

In response to Concerned888... You make a good point, however, this same argument can be made to a patient receving treatement of oxycontin or any other opiate. What is to stop them from reselling their meds to those w/o prescriptions. And if a junkie is aware that their neighbor has a medicine cabinet full of these drugs, what is to stop them from burglary. As far as deciding what illnesses warrant marijuana prescription, determining that criteria should be left up to the medical community, not politicians.

If sick people are allowed to grow and smoke marijuana, who is to say they themselves will not start selling it to healthy people who aren't allowed to grow it in their homes? What illness must a person have to be able to grow and smoke it? If a sick person is growing it in their home, aren't they at risk? What if a junkie learns their neighbor is growing? Isn't the grower at risk of a burglary or home invasion?

Good luck. I hope the people of Florida put the sick first. instead of the rightwing nut jobs agenda first.. Like letting the big pharmacy dictate what meds can be sold.
