Police are investigating a collision involving a Tri-Rail train that left a bicyclist dead Thursday morning, a spokesman said.
Investigators have since been unable to identify the bicyclist, who was taken to North Broward Medical Center and pronounced dead, said Fort Lauderdale police spokesman Detective Travis Mandell.
The bicyclist was possibly in his late 50s and about 6 feet tall, Mandell said.
A northbound train had just crossed at Northwest 62nd Street about 7 a.m., when the bicyclist was crossing the tracks in the median section of the roadway, police said.
A southbound train then went through the intersection and struck him, police said. The traffic-control arms for the railway were in the down position at the time, preventing vehicles from crossing, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Authorities urge anyone with information to call police Investigator Donald Goedke at 954-828-5754.
