Investigator probing cause of fire at West Palm Beach warehouse

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - An 'incredibly loud and fiery explosion' is how residents in one West Palm Beach neighborhood are describing what they saw, heard and felt when a large fire broke out on Georgia Avenue Monday evening.

"It sounded like a bomb," said Bob Shoe, who lives nearby. It took fire crews about 90 minutes to get the flames under control. A city spokesperson confirmed that no one was injured.

Now there are questions about what kind of a business was operating in that four-unit warehouse and if, somehow, an explosion occurred. Neighbors described what happened here as some sort of an explosion.  Police are looking now into what kind of business went up in flames in the warehouse. A city spokesman said the fire destroyed two of those four units.

Neighbors and nearby workers say in the days before this fire they could smell chemicals in the air. Some have their theories about what may have been going on inside. None of those, as of yet, have been confirmed by investigators.

Residents here are shocked that no one was hurt or killed after the power they witnessed.

"All you hear is a bang, boom, like the walls started shaking and I opened the door and looked outside and all you see is smoke coming out of the building," said Junior Garcia who lives next door to the warehouse.  "It was insane."

At last check, investigators were combing through property records to find out who the owner of this business and this building is to figure out exactly what was going on in there before this fire and to see if it had anything to do with the explosion that neighbors say they heard.

YouReporter Billy Marsh sent video of the fire.
