WPTV gets a visit from Darla, a Southern ground hornbill

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Darla, a southern ground hornbill, has a distinctive look with a a black body and bright red features.

The birds can weigh up to ten pounds and have a wingspan of several feet.  They can be very vocal, with sounds ranging from a gentle coo to a bursting shout, according to Maura Powers, an animal trainer at the Palm Beach Zoo.

While it looks like Darla has thick black eyelashes, they are actually small feathers above her eyes to keep the dust out.
