Scarlet macaw visits WPTV

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society stopped by the NewsChannel 5 studio with Goose, a scarlet macaw.

The birds are large parrots with bright red, yellow and blue feathers.  They are native to South America.  They are important to the ecosystem because they are seed-dispersers.

Animal Trainer Sara Travis and Media Relations Manager Angela Ledford introduced Goose and explained that we can protect the scarlet macaw’s habitat by purchasing sustainably-grown coffee.  Coffee stamped with the Rainforest Alliance Certified frog is sustainably-grown.

There are several fun events, activities and special deals happening at the Zoo in coming weeks.

Story Time at the Zoo is every Saturday morning at 10:30.  You can receive $2 off child admission through the month of August with a Palm Beach County Library card.

Through Labor Day Weekend, August 29 to September 1, children 12 and under get into the Zoo for free.
