A student at a Utah middle school was suspended last week after school officials said her new, red hair color was "too distracting," according to the New York Daily News.
Rylee MacKay is a 15-year-old student at Hurricane Middle School in Southwestern Utah.
According to the New York Daily News report, she was punished Wednesday with in-school suspension after dying her hair red.
School administers said she was in violation of a school policy.
The Daily News reports that Washington County School District's policy -- which includes Hurricane Middle School -- states that "Hair color should be within the spectrum of color that grows naturally."
