Peruvian 'cat lady' makes sanctuary for felines

LIMA, Peru - Maria Torero has turned her two-story home in Lima, Peru into a sanctuary for old and sick cats.

She currently treats more than 175 cats that are in poor health. Many have been diagnosed with Leukemia or respiratory infections.

NBC news says Torero is covered in scratches, but she says she won't give up on her efforts to give the cats the quality of life they need in their final years.

When a cat dies, she gives them no ceremony or burial, since she offered them the love and attention they needed while they were alive.
