CLEARWATER, Fla. - A crash that sent a motorcyclist cartwheeling through the air at a Clearwater intersection was captured by a red light video camera. Amazingly, the motorcyclist literally walked away after landing on the pavement.
The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on May 24 at Belcher Road and Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard.
Alex Jay Hall of St. Petersburg was attempting to turn east on Gulf-to-Bay when he collided with the driver of the Honda motorcycle, Michael Curtis Smith of Clearwater.
Hall said the light had turned red and he was already in the intersection so began his turn.
Smith flew through the air and quickly got up after landing in the roadway. Amazingly he was not injured.
Smith said the light was still green and the car turned in front of him and it was too late to stop.
Hall was cited for an improper left turn and driving with a suspended license without knowledge.
Police say Smith did not have the required motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license.
