Lance Cpl. Myles Kerr helps boy finish race who asked for help: good deed goes viral

CHARLEVOIX, MI - While running in The Jeff Drenth Memorial 5K in Michigan, a Marine slowed his pace to help a young boy struggling to finish the race.

According to a Huffington Post report , Lance Cpl. Myles Kerr, 19, put aside his ambition to beat his fellow Marines and instead stayed behind to motivate 9-year-old Brandon Fuchs, who had been separated from his party.

The 5K results online show that Kerr ended up with the slowest time in his age group but his actions did not go unnoticed.

The Marine was surprised by the thousands of social media users celebrating his act of kindness. He believed running with the boy who politely asked him to stay was "what any man would do."

According to a tweet from Kerr, the boy's family rewarded him with a $100 gift card to Grey Gables Restaurant.
