Jason Russell interview video: KONY 2012 filmmaker speaks to Oprah, Today Show after meltdown

KONY 2012 filmmaker Jason Russell is speaking up for the first time after a "nervous breakdown" that essentially crushed a viral project that initially was inspiring a nation.

Russell, first speaking with Oprah Winfrey and the the Today Show Monday morning, said he blames his breakdown on nine years of pressure and stress.

Russell's first interview aired on "Oprah's Next Chapter" Sunday. In the interview he says Russell says "I am doing really well. I feel like I'm on top of the world because you don't go through something this traumatic, dramatic and not learn a lot from it and not grow closer to your wife, your family and the people who are in your tribe. You can't really get more broken than being naked on the street ranting to yourself."

He adds about the incident, "It depends on who you talk to. I think it's a nervous breakdown...I think that every doctor agreed that PTSD was a part of the actual breakdown. It was 9 years compounding."
