Horse rescued from quicksand-like mud in Geelong, Australia, while owner Nicole Graham assisted

AUSTRALIA -- When an 18-year-old horse was trapped in quicksand-like mud on a beach in Australia, its owner remained by its side, holding its head above the mud as rescuers arrived.

Nicole Graham and her daughter were riding along Avalon beach in Geelong, when the horse started sinking.

Graham's daughter called for help.

"I was very lucky that my 7-year-old daughter was able to find Triple-A and get it organized," Graham said.

It was a race against time to get him out before the tide came in.

Rescue workers sedated the animal, then used a sling and tractor to pull him out of the mud. It took more than three hours.

The horse was not hurt.
