Florida sanitation works dig through 5 tons of trash to find lost wedding ring

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.-- Last Wednesday, Saira Rossy, a newly married wife, was running late for work and decided to take out the trash on her way out.

Along with the garbage, Rossy threw away her wedding ring set; which she was holding in a plastic bag.

It wasn't until later that day that Rossy realized she was missing her most precious item.

The distraught woman called Waste Management - hoping for a miracle.

In the meantime  she made a quick stop at the store; Rossy bought a hazmat suit, mask and boots. She was ready to go Dumpster diving.

But Waste Management assured her they could help.

On Wednesday - Waste Management emptied five tons of trash from the compactor and went digging for the rings.

As fate would have it - they didn't come up empty handed.

"We need to go play the lottery today because it only took about 15-20 minutes. It's definitely finding a needle in a haystack,” said Christi Epperson with Collier County Waste Management.

Rossy couldn't be more thankful to Waste Management, but she said she never gave up hope.
