Florida fishermen recovers rare giant sawfish

It was dead when he pulled it in

HOMESTEAD, Fla. - A Florida boater made an unusual discovery in the waters of the Atlantic...a rare giant sawfish.

He picked up a dead 10-foot sawfish about a mile from the Blackpoint Marina in Homestead.

Also known as a Carpenter Shark, sawfish are actually in the ray family. Characterized by a long, toothy snout -- the animals are endangered in Florida.

The boater says he believes this fish was deliberately killed, because it had fishing lines sticking out of its mouth when he found it.
