DE BEQUE, Co. - Surf's up … on the Colorado River?
A water phenomenon called "Big Sur" is a big draw for surfers and kayakers in De Beque, Colorado.
It only happens when conditions are just right ad hasn't been seen since 2011.
Unlike the ocean, where the waves move, the waves on the river stay in one place. That makes it more challenging, according to river surfer Brittany Parker.
“It just feels fast, and it feels powerful. You've got to definitely make sure that you've got all the right gear. You just want to have a good knowledge of the river because it's definitely a force to be reckoned with,” said Parker.
“Big Sur” is a big attraction for thrill seekers, but experts aren't sure how long it will stick around.
