Bees delay US Airways Express flight 2690 to Indianapolis from North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- A swarm of bees kept a US Airways Express flight at the gate at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

US Airways spokesman Davien Anderson said Flight 2690 to Indianapolis had boarded Wednesday afternoon and was ready for departure. Anderson said when the gate agent approached the tug -- which pushes the airplane back from the gate -- the agent noticed the bees.

The agent couldn't operate the tug in fear of being stung.

The CRJ900 jet was scheduled to depart at 1:15 p.m.

Anderson said a beekeeper was summoned to remove the bees. The passengers remained on the aircraft.

WCNC later reported that a passenger tweeted around 3:45 p.m. that the plane was "bee free."
