Amy Barber cochlear implant video: TODAY Show spotlights the moment she first hears her family

A 26-year-old woman named Amy Barber was deaf since birth.

Thanks to a cochlear implant, she was recently able to hear for the first time in her life.

Amy's mother captured the moments she was first able to hear and posted the video on YouTube.

You can see a mixture of several emotions on her face as she hears the voices of her parents, siblings and son for the first time.

Neither the implants nor the practice of posting "hearing for the first time" videos on YouTube is anything new.

A similar video went viral in September 2011 showing 29-year-old Sarah Churman having her implant activated after a lifetime of deafness.

Another similar, popular video features a mother enjoying the moment that her 8-month-old son first hears her.
