FERRYLAND, Newfoundland - An archaeology student in Canada made a tiny but historic discovery at the site of an English settlement.
Anna Sparrow had spent hours carefully sifting through dirt, broken pottery and glass when she unearthed a 400-year-old copper crucifix.
Sparrow says she's surprised to make such an important find because she is a self-proclaimed novice.
"I wasn't expecting to find something quite so spectacular, especially not in my second week. It was very exciting," said Sparrow.
The cross is a little more than an inch wide and the top portion is missing.
It shows the crucifixion on one side and the Virgin Mary on the other.
