12-foot tiger shark caught off Port Aransas, Texas

(KRIS/NBC NEWS CHANNEL)  After a seven hour fight Ryan Spring reeled in a 12 foot, 7-inch tiger shark, about the size of his boat, off the coast of Port Aransas, Texas.

"He was definitely a fighter," said Spring, who drives down from San Antonio about twice a year to fish out in Port Aransas.

The shark actually pulled their boat south for over 15 miles. Spring said he considered cutting the line several times during the night.

Spring said if it was a female shark, he would've released it, but a fish this size is fair game and worth the fight.

"If something bites the hook," he said. "I'm not going to give up."

Spring said he's already working with someone to donate the meat from the fish to charity.
