Court records show money was an apparent sore spot for Gemma and Ian Burlakoff, whose marriage seemed to play out in court records.
They married in 2005 and were in the process of getting a divorce by the time, investigators say, Ian shot Gemma to death Sunday night.
A Boca police officer responding to the scene shot and killed Ian. The case remains under investigation.
But the Burlakoff's relationship issues stemmed back to the beginning of their marriage.
In 2005, Ian opened a repeat violence case against his wife. The case was ultimately dismissed.
Records reveal the couple lived extravagantly.
In 2004, Ian purchased a million dollar home in the Oaks at Boca Raton. According to court records, the home is currently in foreclosure.
In divorce records, Mrs. Burlakoff was described as voluntarily unemployed. She was a housewife who would engage in, "outrageous shopping sprees." Records reveal she purchased hundreds of pairs of shoes ranging from over $1,000 per pair. Records also show she liked pricey purses too, spending upwards of $5,000 for a handbag.
Both also had prior histories of declaring bankruptcy.
