It’s that time of year when school districts across the state host college fairs for college-seeking high schoolers full of questions.
“I’m just checking out colleges for my future,” said Ashley Millet, a 16-year-old junior in Manatee County.
“I’m looking at art colleges and fashion schools,” said Palm Beach County senior Vanessa Tavera.
At a recent college fair hosted by the Palm Beach County School District more than 150 colleges, universities, technical school, and armed forces showed up with fliers and trinkets pitching to help lure student interest.
“Here in Palm Beach County, we like to foster post-graduate success and we want to make sure we’re able to do that and expose them to this,” said the district’s high school counseling program planner, Eunice Vivar.
But Tampa attorney Jesse Hoyer is warning parents after we showed her the list of schools in attendance in Palm Beach County and at college fairs around the state.
“It’s a horrible practice to start letting these schools come into high schools to recruit. It’s just not a good idea,” she said.
