Holiday lights, outdoor Christmas decorations: Businesses creating niche for holiday decorating

BOCA RATON, FLA.  Palm trees, sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. It's what the holiday season is all about -- at least here in South Florida.

It may not feel like up north, but it certainly is starting to look a lot like Christmas.

"Usually from now until mid-December is crazy busy," said Martin DeVincenti, President of Benchmark Painting and Carpentry.

DeVincenti's Boynton Beach-based company is now a franchise of 'Christmas Decor.'

For the next few weeks, DeVincenti's crews will be climbing ladders, wrapping trees and installing lights, getting 20 to 30 homes and commercial locations ready for the holidays.

"Week before Thanksgiving, most people want it up," said DeVincenti.

DeVincenti has been in the holiday decorating business for years. On average, his customers spend $750.

Despite a struggling economy, he says this year business is up.
"It's a small part of the business but it's fun, it breaks it up a little bit, people get their house lit up and they're so happy."
