New study finds bacteria in packed lunches could be affecting the health of young students

Researchers have discovered surprising news that may make you sick to your stomach.

A new study shows that school lunches brought from home that aren't stored at the right temperature may not be safe to eat.

Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin tested the temperatures of 700 packed lunches of three to five-year-old children at one daycare center.

Their findings showed that even in a heated thermal container or in a bag with ice packs, as many as 90 percent of lunches were in the "thermal danger zone" that could cause foodborne illness.

Experts recommend freezing beverages like water or milk, which will act as an additional ice pack to keep foods colder and will thaw by lunchtime.
