Health law glitches: fatal or fleeting?

WASHINGTON - The glitch-ridden rollout of President Barack Obama's health care law has opponents crowing: "Told you so!"

Time to hit pause, they say, or scrap it.

But others are saying there's enough time to fix the online enrollment system before insurance coverage kicks in Jan. 1.

The administration said Monday that system wait times have been cut. But despite weekend upgrades, the healthcare.gov website will be brought down again at 1 a.m. Tuesday for more fixes overnight.

Insurers are holding off public criticism. They say that few customers are getting through, but they expect the situation to improve.

The last time a major new federal health care program launched -- the Medicare prescription benefit in 2006 -- there were also big startup problems that eventually were worked out.
