Cigna tells brokers to stop subsidy enrollments in Marketplace until government fixes issues

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace was supposed to start last week, but website problems continue to cause delays that some fear may not be fixed for weeks.

Insurance company, Cigna, is so concerned about issues with Healthcare.gov that it sent an email to brokers telling them to stop enrollment for October for anyone needing a subsidy.

We first told you about the subsidy issues last week but Health and Human Services denied there was a problem. Now more evidence that there is an issue with the discounts for insurance premiums in the Marketplace.

In the email, Cigna said it decided to stop subsidy enrollments because of continued government testing and changes that are being made to the functionality of the tax credit.

While this is a setback, it doesn't mean you can't do your research now. Get with your agent and begin viewing policies. You can do this on and off the market.

The government says it's fixing glitches as quickly as possible.

The email shows at least one insurance company feels it will be a few more weeks, possibly November, before the government gets Healthcare.gov working properly.
