Florida's Surgeon General says 6 out of 10 Floridians are currently overweight.
So Dr. John Armstrong is touring the state pushing the "Healthiest Weight Florida" initiative.
At the Martin County Health Department, he emphasized three simple things everyone can do to reverse the trend toward obesity.
"Substitute water for sugary beverages. Second, substitute fresh Florida fruits and vegetables for breakfast and lunch. The third thing is where possible, take the stairs instead of elevator and go for a walk at lunch or after dinner," said Dr. Armstrong.
Right now, Martin County schools are among those that have begun to measure the BMI, or Body Mass Index of 1st, 3rd, and 6th graders to see if there are any unhealthy trends developing.
